The famous Mount Lavinia Beach Hotel is situated here, where the beaches are very famous among Europeans, being just 12 kilometers from Colombo, on the road to Galle. It lies alongside a wind-swept headland jutting into the waters of the Indian Ocean. Mt. Lavinia is a popular bathing spot for its white sand and calm waves. The hotel earlier was the Governors House built in 1805 by Sir Thomas Maitland which was later converted into this hotel. |
